Wandering around New York City, you can find bits and pieces of its architectual history. Near the front of old tenaments or commercial buildings, you may find come across circular or square glass tiles embedded in an iron or steel grate in the sidewalks or the fronts of metal steps. They were used to allow natural light into basements!

These are fascinating images. Firstly, I’m always curious about old designs and techniques where you can see the thought-process that went into them. Second, these make for great abstracts! Brilliant stuff - and rust, too!
