Weathered Picnic Table

We hiked a trail in one of the state parks along the Hudson River shoreline, just north of the town of Nyack, NY (Rockland County). Along the way, we saw these weathered picnic tables.

Mops Behind Bars

Sitting in my car parked in front of a hydrant, I noticed these two mops left out to dry. Getting out of the car with my camera, I went about my business of taking pictures. Snap... snap... snap... Next thing you know, everyone in the vincinity is staring at me. I grinned sheepishly and smiled...they smiled back. They must've been thinking I'm really nuts, taking pictures of mops!

The Colors of Death

Nothing beats living in an area where you experience the four seasons of the year. In fall, the weather gets cooler, the nights are crisp and the leaves starts to change. The foliage is so beautiful and stunning, it leaves you breathless.

There Goes The Neighborhood

A lone Mini-Carpet Anemone, nestled amongst the Zoanthids. They're in my reef aquarium and tho they're classified as animals, they look like flowers!

The Claw

Now I know what Jim Carrey meant in the movie "Liar, Liar" when he chased his son while yelling "the claw!" These fiddler crabs are so funny! At low tide, they're all over scurrying about. But set foot on the beach and in a blink, they all pop back into their holes. Look at the size of that claw!!! You'd think these crabs are huge but look at the size of the grains of sand.

Pies Inside

Briermere Farms is most famous for their pies! We always pickup a few extra pies and toss them into the freezer. This way we can enjoy them all year round. I will guarantee that once you taste their pies, you will never go back to your old pies ever again. Their cinnamon rolls are also out of this world!

Birds of Prey

Matterhorn's annual October Fun Fest always has lots of fun activities, demonstrations and shows for the whole family. They really get into the Halloween spirit of things. It's also very educational. There was Bwanna Jim's Reptile Show and Jonathan Wood's Birds of Prey, which featured 16 different Birds of Prey. It's truly amazing to be able to see these birds up close, with their razor sharp talons and beaks!

In Meditation

She's one of two ladies sitting deep in meditation, while a third one was holding a sign and handing out leaflets about Falun Gong. She started speaking in Mandarin to me and I had no clue as to what she was talking about!

Mystery Meat

Following Photo Friday's "2x4" extra challenge instructions, I ended up near this food cart. New York City is famous for its many ethnic foods and food carts on almost every corner. After taking several shots and walking away, the vendor of this cart came storming up to me, spatula in hand and demanded to know why I was taking pictures of his cart. He was pretty irate and wanted to know if I was the health inspector or something. I explained it was for my Web site and offered to delete the pictures. He was still upset but walked away mumbling under his breath, waving his hands that it was alright to keep them. I nodded and continued on my way. I learned a valuable lesson... stay away from photographing food carts, they're more off limits than bridges and government buildings! LOL

Pumpkin Picking

If weather permits, definitely make a stop here on Pumpkinseed Hill at Jones Family Farms. There are pumpkins everywhere as far as the eye can see. Hitch a fun hayride to the pumpkin patch. A new tradition was started, Jones Winery. You can purchase their first vintage, Woodlands White. Just don't drink before you drive home!

I don't know how long she was sitting like that before I came upon her. I shot numerous photos of her and she didn't seem to take notice of my presence. Anyone with a Digital Rebel knows it's not exactly a quiet camera!

It's A Neon Day

We had missed the carnival at our local mall in Rockland County and decided to attend the one at Shea Stadium. Believe me, anyone with a family understands the logic! However, it was such a dreary and rainy day, instead, we took a quick walk to pickup dinner and headed to Flushing Mall, which we'd never been to.
After the mall, it had stopped raining and we decided to make a quick run to the carnival. But then we found out they wanted $5 for parking and $3 per person admission. That's not including the cost for the rides. For that, we said next time!
At least the neon lights give this post a carnival feel.

October means pumpkin picking time! I just love this photo of my daughter, Samantha, when she was 7 years old. This was taken with my Minolta DiMage 7, which is now collecting dust.
